Citation Styles Playbook

The purpose of this playbook is to help you cite the sources used in your academic research.

Books

One author

Author's last name Author's first initial(s). Year published. Title of book, edition (if relevant). Publisher, Location of publication.

(Note: Unlike MLA and APA, there is no comma between the author's last name and first initial.)

Sambrook J. 1989. Molecular cloning: a laboratory manual, 2nd ed. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Cold Spring Harbor, NY.

Multiple authors

First author's last name First author's first initial(s), Second author's last name Second author's first initial(s). Year published. Title of book, edition (if relevant). Publisher, Location of publication.

(Note: When listing multiple authors, or authors with multiple initials, do not place a period <.> after each initial. Only use a period at the end of the author portion of the citation.)

Chapter or essay in a book
