Search Readex databases

Step 1:

Access African Americans and Reconstruction: Hope and Struggle, 1865-1883 or African Americans and Jim Crow: Repression and Protest, 1883-1922.  Note: If you're off-campus, you will be prompted to login with your myPVCC username and password.

Step 2:

Enter your search terms in the search box, and click Go!

Search term "Freedmen's Bureau" in search box

Step 3:

A list of results will appear - these are all primary source documents written in the time period you are researching.  Select the title of the document of interest to you.

Step 4:

A scanned copy of the document will appear.  Use the items on the top toolbar to navigate the document:

  1. Select the dropdown menu to jump to specific spot in the Table of Contents. (Note: This may not always be useful if there isn't a real table of contents.  You may only see "Page 1" etc.)
  2. Select the arrows to move a different page.
  3. Select the plus and minus buttons to zoom in and out of the document.
  4. Select the download button to download a copy of the document.
