How do I search African Books Collective?

Step 1:

Access African Books Collective. (If you're off-campus, you will be prompted to login with your myPVCC username and password)

Step 2:

Select the "Click Here" button on the pop-up welcome message for Virginia/VIVA users.

​Step 3:

Enter your search terms in the search box. Enter a keyword or the title of a book in the search bar. Click the "Go" button.

Step 4:

On the results page, select the title of the book.

​Step 5:

You can read the book in a web browser or download it as a PDF file to read offline.

If you select "Read Now", the book will open in a new tab in the browser. Use the arrow buttons to move back and forward by one page. Use the menu to skip to specific sections or chapters.

For a downloadable PDF version of the book, select "Download to Adobe Acrobat". A PDF version of the book will open in a new tab in the browser. Use the browser application options to save the PDF file to your device.

Select "Advanced Search" for more search options.

Search using multiple terms. Use the drop-down menus to search using keywords, author name, title, etc.

Scroll down on the advanced search page to see more options to narrow a search, such as publication date range.
