Library Instruction

  1. Library instruction will be provided via Zoom for synchronous online classes, while recorded sessions, playbooks, and interactive modules will be available for asynchronous online classes; in-person sessions can be scheduled for those classes meeting on campus. Please email Laura Skinner at lskinner@pvcc.edu to schedule your class now.

  2. The embedded librarian program adds a librarian to your Canvas course as a TA. Librarians interact with students, usually through a discussion board, at the point of need and assist with research skills and concepts. To request an embedded librarian, please fill out this form.

  3. Customized playbooks can be created to support assignments and the research process. Please see examples here: https://libguides.pvcc.edu/BIO-assignments/lab-assignments. If you would like to have a playbook created for your class or assignment, please email reference@pvcc.edu

  4. If you need class materials for your online class, please contact Crystal Newell. We can arrange for access or purchase the materials for you.

Reference

  1. We encourage both you and your students to contact us through email at reference@pvcc.edu. You can expect a response Monday through Friday within 48 hours, except on weekends and holidays.

  2. Ask your research questions via chat 24/7 (see widget on the left). This service is staffed by PVCC librarians when the library is open and by qualified librarians from around the world when the library is closed.

Rooms to Zoom (information for students)

New Policies

  • In order to maintain social distancing, the group study rooms have been converted to "Rooms to Zoom."  If you do not have internet at home or it's spotty, you may come to the library and connect to your class in these rooms.  Laptops are available at the front desk, but you can also bring your own.
  • Only ONE person is allowed in a room at a time.  These rooms are NOT open for group study sessions, nor can they be used to take an exam.  They are only to be used to connect to a class via Zoom.
  • They cannot be reserved ahead of time and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  You must check in at the front desk, indicate what class it's for, and borrow the key.  The rooms will remain locked when not in use.
  • You cannot remain in the Rooms to Zoom between classes. You must leave the room and study elsewhere in the library until your next class begins.
  • If all the rooms are in use when you arrive, the First Quadrant Math Center is open for you to connect to your class. There are 16 desktop workstations with headphones available for you to use.  Their hours are Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM-6:00 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM.
  • If a student used the room before you, then you will be provided with cleaning supplies to clean the area.  If the room wasn't in use and you would still like cleaning supplies, please ask and they will be provided.

Online Materials

  1. All of the library’s electronic collections and resources are available online 24/7 and can be found on the library’s homepage and playbooks.
  1. Accessing materials from off campus is easy, simply log in using your MyPVCC username and password.

Print Materials

  1. If you place a hold request, you have two options: a) Library staff can mail the books to your residence (no P.O. Box). b) The book can be placed on hold in the library, and you can come pick it up. Learn how to request or place a hold on a book.

  2. Faculty do not have due dates on their materials.  The system will automatically renew anything you have already checked out.

Interlibrary Loan

  1. We will request articles, book chapters, and physical books from other libraries.  Whether we are successful in securing a print book depends on other libraries around the country being open for business and shipping materials from their collection.  Fill out the request form.

  2. We will mail Interlibrary Loan books to your residence if you desire.  Indicate this on the request form.
