Computer Use

Computers in the Library

  • In order to maintain social distancing, ten desktop computers are available for use in the library. These stations will be wiped down in between use.
  • The library has laptops available for checkout.  You can use these anywhere within the library, and they will be disinfected by library staff in between each use.

G.O.A.L. Program

  • If you would like to borrow a laptop for the summer semester, apply for the G.O.A.L. Program.  We continue to waive the financial and credit requirements.  As long as you are enrolled in a class at PVCC, you are eligible to borrow a laptop.  We do have a limited supply, so fill out the application as soon as possible. They are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

Accessing Library Materials

Online Materials

  • All ebooks and article databases remain available 24/7.  Go to the library's homepage to search our databases, or access them directly using our Database List.

Print Materials (Available Physically in the Library)

  • The physical books in the library are available for checkout.  When you borrow a book from the library, it will be due back at the end of the semester on Wednesday, August 4.  (This date is subject to change.)
  • If you place a hold request, you have two options: 1) Library staff can mail the books to your residence (no P.O. Box). 2) The book can be placed on hold at the front desk in the library, and you can come pick it up. Learn how to request or place a hold on a book.

Items on Reserve (Laptops, A&P Models, Textbooks, etc.)

  • The library has laptops, headphones, mice, external DVD drive, and a CAC card reader available for checkout at the front desk.  These materials can only be used within the library, and they will be disinfected between each use.
  • We also have A&P models and Nursing models available for use in the library.  These will NOT be disinfected in between each use per the faculty's recommendation.  Hand sanitizer is available in the library for you to wash your hands after using them.  We also have gloves available upon request.
  • Our textbooks on reserve remain available.  These books cannot leave the library, but you may make copies of specific chapters.  These books are also not disinfected between use, so please wash your hands after using them.  Also remember we do not have every single textbook - only those that the professors have placed on reserve.

Group Study Rooms

New Policies

  • In order to maintain social distancing, the group study rooms have been converted to "Rooms to Zoom."  If you do not have internet at home or it's spotty, you may come to the library and connect to your class in these rooms.  Laptops are available at the front desk, but you can also bring your own.
  • Only ONE person is allowed in a room at a time.  These rooms are NOT open for group study sessions, nor can they be used to take an exam.  They are only to be used to connect to a class via Zoom.
  • They cannot be reserved ahead of time and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  You must check in at the front desk, indicate what class it's for, and borrow the key.  The rooms will remain locked when not in use.
  • You cannot remain in the Rooms to Zoom between classes. You must leave the room and study elsewhere in the library until your next class begins.
  • If all the rooms are in use when you arrive, the First Quadrant Math Center is open for you to connect to your class. There are 16 desktop workstations with headphones available for you to use.  Their hours are Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM-6:00 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM.
  • If a student used the room before you, then you will be provided with cleaning supplies to clean the area.  If the room wasn't in use and you would still like cleaning supplies, please ask and they will be provided.

Interlibrary Loan

Request an Item the Library Does Not Own

  • If we do not have a book or article that you need for an assignment, you can request it through Interlibrary Loan.  Our ability to get the item for you depends on another library's ability to send it to us.  Please allow time for these books to arrive in the mail.  You can request these materials be sent to your home.  Articles are always sent electronically to your email.  Fill out the Interlibrary Loan Request Form to request a book or article.
