How do I conduct literary research?

Using library databases to find literary criticism

Search Gale Literary Resources

When searching using Gale Literary Sources you are searching the following literary databases all at the same time: Gale Virtual Reference Library, Literature Resource Center, Literature Criticism Online, Scribner Writers Online, and Twayne’s Authors Online. This makes for a more efficient search that maximizes your results.

  • Go to Gale Literary Sources. You can go directly or find the link it in the alphabetical list of databases
  • Enter your search terms and tell the database what fields to search (person by or about, name of work, keyword, etc.). Then click Search.
  • To select a source from the list, click on its title.

Search results content types

Look on the right hand side of your results list to see what types of sources are available: literary criticism, biography, topic & work overviews, etc. The current set is highlighted -- in the image, "literary criticism" is highlighted because those are the results that are listed on the main section of the page.  Clicking on the other types of results will change the results list to display only that type of source.

email download or print source

To make sure you do not lose your source, print it, download it, or email it to yourself, using  the tools located on the right hand side of the source's screen.
