How do I obtain materials from the UVA libraries?

PVCC faculty, staff, and students may obtain materials from UVA libraries in 3 ways:

• via interlibrary loan (ILL),
• by registering for a community library card, and
• in person.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

• PVCC can obtain materials for faculty, staff, and students via interlibrary loan.
• You must be a PVCC student (includes dual enrollment, Workforce Services, and TJACE), faculty member, or staff member to request items through Interlibrary Loan.  Mary Baldwin and ODU students may also request items through Interlibrary Loan, but they must email reference@pvcc.edu.
• The request must be for college-related research (no personal requests allowed).
• Request up to 6 articles and 3 books at one time.  Additional requests may not be made until the other items are delivered.
• No requests for textbooks or any required texts for a course are allowed.
• If a book is damaged or lost, the requestor is responsible for the fee charged by the lending library.
• To request an ILL, visit the library's interlibrary loan page.

Register for a UVA community library card

PVCC faculty, staff, and students can register for a UVA community library card, which allows them to check out books and other materials from the UVA libraries. Read about the libraries' policies.  Ready to register? Visit a UVA library or use the online form. Note that you will not have remote access to electronic materials. The research databases the Library subscribes to are available from public computer terminals in Charles L. Brown Science & Engineering Library and Clemons Library.

In Person

You can visit the UVA libraries in person. Keep in mind some of them are restricted to UVA faculty, staff, and students after 10 p.m. You are encouraged to take your own laptop; you can use the WiFi at any of the libraries.
