Open Educational Resources Playbook

Art History Teaching Resources (AHTR) is a peer-populated platform for art history teachers. AHTR is home to a constantly evolving and collectively authored online repository of art history teaching content including, but not limited to, lesson plans, video introductions to museums, book reviews, image clusters, and classroom and museum activities. The site promotes discussion and reflection around new ways of teaching and learning in the art history classroom through a peer-populated blog, and fosters a collaborative virtual community for art history instructors at all career stages.

Smarthistory is a leading resource for the study of art and cultural heritage. Our growing collection of videos and essays are designed to be engaging and conversational and cover art that ranges from the paleolithic to the present. Everything on Smarthistory is completely free and our content is offered with no advertising. We are a small non-profit organization based in New York, but we reach millions of learners around the world.

Writing Spaces: Readings on Writing is a book series containing peer-reviewed collections of essays--all composed by teachers for students--with each volume freely available for download under a Creative Commons license. The Writing Spaces' aims to build a library of quality open textbooks for the writing classroom as an alternative to costly textbooks.

HathiTrust is a partnership of major research institutions and libraries working to ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible long into the future. The mission of HathiTrust is to contribute to research, scholarship, and the common good by collaboratively collecting, organizing, preserving, communicating, and sharing the record of human knowledge.

Open Library is a catalog. The project began in November 2007 and has been inhaling catalog records from some of the biggest libraries in the world ever since. We have well over 20 million edition records online, provide access to 1.7 million scanned versions of books, and link to external sources like WorldCat and Amazon when we can. The secondary goal is to get you as close to the actual document you're looking for as we can, whether that is a scanned version courtesy of the Internet Archive, or a link to Powell's where you can purchase your own copy.

MyOpenMath is designed for mathematics, providing delivery of homework, quizzes, and tests with rich mathematical content. Students can receive immediate feedback on algorithmically generated questions with numerical or algebraic expression answers. And it can do so much more, providing a full course management system, including file posting, discussion forums, and a full gradebook, all designed with mathematics in mind.

PhET provides fun, free, interactive, research-based science and mathematics simulations. All simulations are open source.

CHEO's institutional partners develop or transition identified allied healthcare courses and programs into hybrid and/or online formats. These programs—some of which will be new and others currently provided in the face-to-face format only—will offer students the opportunity to acquire stackable certificates, allowing them to make progress in their profession as working adults while pursuing academic credentials.

These interactive multimedia learning materials are outcomes of several grant-funded research projects sponsored by the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), including the Advanced Nursing Education, Geriatric Education using a Palliative Care Framework (GEPaC), and the Teaching and Transforming through Technology (T3) projects; and the National Nurse Emergency Preparedness Initiative (NNEPI), sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The "courseware modules" linked below represent substantial portions of the resources provided to students who register in participating Penn State classes. These resources are available for reuse by teachers and learners worldwide who do not intend to apply for admission, register for classes, or pursue a certificate or degree at Penn State.
